Olympus OM-D E-M1X first pics

First, what it was expected to look like:

Now, what it’s going to look like (images were shared on mu-43):

In essence, they made it even more Canon-like than even I imagined – look at the placement of shutter release and front control wheel!

It looks large relative to the mount, and it is – same size as a Canon EOS 1D bar a centimeter top and side.

The sensor will be 20 megapixels, with a local shutter, which isn’t necessarily saying much – the jello effect may be more or less pronounced. Stabilisation is claimed as being over 7.5 stops, which was previously claimed by Olympus to be impossible to exceed unless gyro sensors could compensate for the rotation of the Earth. Burst shooting tops out at 18 fps. Handheld 80 megapixel high resolution images can be taken within 1/60 of a second, fast enough for people photography – essentially anything significantly slower than a person walking, as a rule of thumb.

43rumors.com writes that the camera can intelligently pick the right autofocus settings based on the scene being shot, on the fly.

Flippy screen and other details on the rear:

It will have the same batteries as the E-M1 II, but a larger viewfinder. It’s going to be announced in January and available in February.

  1. There’s just something beautiful about DSLR cameras, isn’t there? I am “all in” with Pentax, but boy what a masterpiece of visual art this thing is.

    • Ah, careful there. This may just be semantics to many people, and probably with some justification, but keep in mind modern Olympus cameras are mirrorless, as is the one shown here. Looking at it again, I wonder if people will start calling it the E-Mix.
